Wedding Hair and Makeup FAQ
What is the wedding hair and makeup booking process?
At Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry, we know how important it is to feel confident in your wedding beauty team. We recommend booking your bridal hair and makeup artists early, ideally 6 to 12 months in advance, to ensure availability for your date.
Our award-winning team proudly serves Milwaukee, Southern Wisconsin, Madison, Northern Illinois, Minneapolis & St. Paul . We bring luxury, on-location bridal hair and makeup directly to you for a calm, seamless, and unforgettable wedding morning.
Ready to make it official?
To secure your date, all we need is a non-refundable retainer and a signed bridal contract. Once completed, your dream beauty team is officially reserved and one step closer to creating your perfect wedding-day look.
Don’t wait—lock in your bridal hair and makeup team today and enjoy peace of mind knowing your beauty details are in expert hands.
I’m not sure of my exact headcount at the moment. Can I still book now?
Absolutely! You don’t need your exact headcount right away. We don’t require final numbers until 6 months before your wedding day, giving you plenty of time to confirm your bridal party.
To secure your date, we require a minimum of 5 services per stylist for either bridal hair or bridal makeup. If you’re booking within the 6-month window, we’ll work closely with you to finalize your headcount and pair you with the ideal bridal hairstylist or makeup artist for your wedding day.
Our award-winning team provides luxury, on-location bridal hair and makeup services throughout Southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and the Minneapolis–St. Paul area. We specialize in creating a seamless, stress-free beauty experience for every bride and bridal party.
When should I schedule my wedding hair and makeup preview?
We recommend scheduling your bridal preview session about 3 months before your wedding day. This timing keeps your look fresh in your mind while still giving you time to make any adjustments to your bridal hair or bridal makeup.
Our bridal preview appointments, also known as hair and makeup trials, are available throughout Milwaukee, Madison, Lake Geneva, Janesville, Beloit, Waukesha, Minneapolis, St Paul, and all surrounding areas. This makes it easy and convenient for you to meet with your bridal hair and makeup artist.
How do I know if I want to book if I don’t do a wedding hair and makeup preview first?
Have you connected with us on social media and read some of our reviews? JJ Bridal Artistry only shares real clients and real results. Our bridal makeup artists and hairstylists consistently deliver beautiful, long lasting looks for our brides, and we are committed to providing the same experience for you.
We are versatile, attentive, and focused on bringing your vision to life. When you work with our bridal beauty team, you can truly relax knowing you are in the best hands.
Do I have to do a preview (otherwise known as a bridal hair and makeup trial?
We do not require a preview also known as a hair or makeup trial, in order to book with us. Every bride has different needs and we respect that. A preview is recommended, when possible, but we also understand that there are situations where it may not be feasible.
If you are able to schedule one, a preview is a valuable opportunity to collaborate with your artist, design your dream bridal look, and see how your hair and makeup wear throughout the day. It helps ensure a smooth and confident wedding morning.
What should I bring to my wedding hair and makeup preview?
Bring your inspiration photos, veil or hairpiece, clip in extensions if you are using them, and any jewelry you would like to try with your look. You can also bring any questions you want to go over together. We recommend wearing a white or light colored shirt during your preview because it prevents color reflection and gives you a more accurate idea of your final look.
If you plan to have a spray tan for your wedding day, it is best to have one for your preview as well. This will help your artist match your tones perfectly. Skin care is incredibly important leading up to both your preview and your wedding day, so make sure you have a routine you love. If you need an esthetician or spray tan recommendation, we are happy to help you.
What accommodations are needed on site on my wedding day for hair and makeup?
Our artists just need a few simple things to create a smooth setup on your wedding day:
Table space for products and tools
One outlet and one chair per artist
Makeup artists prefer a barstool-height chair
Hairstylists need a standard-height chair
Working near a window is ideal for natural light (but not required)
Most hotels and venues already have these basics covered, and our team brings their own professional lighting.
How should my party and I prep for my wedding day?
Freshly washed and FULLY dried hair is best. Super curly hair can be blown out with a flat brush if we’re not working with your natural curls. No flat ironed hair. Don’t forget fresh cut and color about a week before. Waxing (such as brows) should be done at least 3 days beforehand. Establishing a skin care routine in the months leading up to the date is highly recommended. Clean faces, with no skin care oils or serums applied the day of are best for a beautiful makeup application!
How long does hair and makeup typically take?
We generally allow about 45 minutes per person for each service and about 1 hour and 15 minutes for the bride. If your group has more than 10 services, we will assign two artists to keep your morning running smoothly and ensure your timeline stays on track.
If I wanted to do two looks for my wedding day or have touch ups throughout, are you available to stay on site?
Yes! Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry has an hourly touch up rate based on hours booked. Time starts when services are completed and is based on artist availability.
What are the benefits of booking with a team as opposed to hiring them separately with individual stylists/artists?
Booking with our team ensures a seamless and stress-free wedding morning with consistent quality across both bridal hair and bridal makeup. You receive a well-organized schedule, a cohesive beauty experience, and one reliable point of contact who handles all logistics, contracts, communication, and payments. This keeps everything simple and eliminates the added work of coordinating multiple people on your own.
You also have built in protection. If an artist or stylist becomes sick or unavailable, our team provides a trusted backup so you are fully covered and never left without support. Brides can relax knowing their beauty team is organized, dependable, and prepared for anything.
